MEDLIFE is an international service organization dedicated to providing medicine, education, and development to low-income families everywhere. As of now, MEDLIFE’s work has expanded into Ecuador, Peru, Nicaragua, and Tanzania. The University of Miami MEDLIFE chapter serves this mission by conducting medical, educational, and developmental outreach events. Previous events include educational STEM Saturday workshops in Overtown and local health fairs.

Our main project is a medical spring break service trip to Peru, Ecuador, or Nicaragua. These trips provide invaluable hands-on experience into the world of international rural medicine. During the trip, MEDLIFE chapters from all over the country travel to a major city of a different country and venture out each day into the surrounding rural communities, bringing with them mobile health clinics. During these mobile clinics, students work alongside native physicians, nurses, dentists, and pharmacists in administering various modes of medical treatment to rural populations that otherwise have no access to healthcare. Each trip also entails the completion of a development project that aims to better the quality of life within the rural communities.

This trip is an excellent way to gain a unique clinical perspective and appreciation for the diversity in not only healthcare but also life.
